From trade licence to a working bank account, here is a realistic timeline for setting up a company in Dubai, and what makes it faster or slower.
Most founders want one number: how long until I can trade? The realistic answer for a straightforward setup is around three to four weeks to be fully operational, but it helps to see where that time actually goes, because some stages run in parallel and some depend on you.
The trade licence
Free zone licences often issue within two to five working days once documents are ready. Mainland licensing typically takes one to two weeks, depending on the activity and whether external approvals are needed. This is the stage where your company legally comes into existence.
Visas and Emirates ID
After the licence, the establishment card opens your immigration file, then residence visas are processed with medical typing and Emirates ID biometrics. Each visa commonly takes one to two weeks, and several can run at the same time.
The corporate bank account
With a complete, well prepared file, most corporate accounts open in two to four weeks. This is the stage most likely to extend a timeline, which is why preparing the bank file early, in parallel with the visas, matters.
What speeds it up or slows it down
Having documents ready on day one is the single biggest accelerator. Regulated activities, external government approvals, non resident shareholders, and complex ownership structures are the common reasons a timeline extends. A clear plan at the start keeps all of these from becoming surprises.
